WHAT'S
HOT!
CMVP40
Vibration Pen Plus measures vibration according to ISO standards and
utilizes acceleration enveloping technology to identify a range of bearing,
gear mesh and other machinery problems.
The PLT-5000
Pocket Laser Tachometer comes as a complete kit with all the accessories
needed for accurate contact or laser sharp non-contact measuring.
The CMCP420VT
is a solid state, loop powered vibration transmitter. It provides a 4-20 mA
output that is proportional to overall vibration in terms of velocity. The
CMCP420VT continuously monitors machinery health and transmits directly into
a PLC or DCS for trending, alarm and machine shutdown.
The CMCP1100
Industrial Accelerometer is an excellent choice for permanent installations.
It offers a broad frequency response, high accuracy, a small installation
footprint and an integral cable. All for only $89.00! (5 meter cable).

EXERGEN DX Series
Hand Held Infrared Thermometers
The DX Series Infrared Thermometer is an
entirely different type of instrument from conventional
temperature measuring devices. It is the only infrared instrument that can
be certified with NIST traceable accuracy on real surfaces of unknown
emissivity, while remaining completely free of the contact errors and heat
sinking errors of contact devices.
SKF
Marlin Condition Detector (MCD)
The SKF MARLIN™ condition detector (MCD)
provides a simple, effective means of checking the health of a machine,
measuring vibration and temperature to assess its operating state. By
putting MCD into the hand of plant or maintenance personnel, the frequency
of checking can be increased, warnings can be received earlier and plant
condition experts can be freed to focus only on specific problem areas.
OilCheck
TMEH 1 The hand-held TMEH 1
provides accurate feedback on oil condition in just two minutes. It
detects mechanical wear and any loss of lubricating properties in the oil
with a repeat accuracy less than 5%.
HIAC
PC4000 Portable Liquid Particle Counter is a
smart and exceptionally easy to use instrument for the measurement,
storage and reporting of critical oil condition parameters in hydraulic
systems. With a supplied carrying case and shoulder strap, the PC4000 is
ideal for multi-point proactive maintenance, roll-off testing, and service
truck usage.
ASK
THE EXPERT
Can you take Acceleration
Envelope Measurements with a hand-held sensor?
Enveloping measurements with a hand-held sensor must be
consistantly applied to achieve consistent readings. A stable point
measurement requires a constant pressure of the sensor against the
machine, the same angle of attack, a clean measurement area and be taken
at the same place every time.
Will Hand-Held
Acceleration Enveloping measurements differ from that of a fixed sensor?
Yes. Because the efficiency of the coupling interface
for hand-held and fixed sensors differ, their amplitude readings may
differ by a factor of 2 or 3. However, absolute amplitudes are not as
significant as changes in amplitude measured over time by the same sensor
(trend). Readings are very much dependent on the transmission path. If
care is taken as to pressure, direction and coupling efficiency, then
statistical trending is a viable method without regard to absolute levels.
Ultrasonic
Leak Detection How
does it work?
You are probably aware of familiar with the
hissing sound a large leak makes. Smaller leaks also emit sound, however,
the frequency is higher than we can normally hear. By a process called
heterodyning, the ultrasonic detector translates the ultrasonic hissing
sound to a lower frequency where it can be heard through headphones, and
leads you to the source. As you move closer, the sound gets louder and is
seen as intensity increments on the LED meter. Decrease the sensitivity as
you close in on the leak to easily pinpoint its location. As long as the
leak is turbulent, there will be enough sound to detect ultrasonically.
Pinhole leaks may be detected with as low as 1 psi. The more pressure
behind the leak, the more turbulence there will be and the more easy the
leak will be to locate.
AccuTrak is so sensitive to sound that it
will let you hear the blink of the human eye, but again it is not gas
specific. For example, a leak test can be done in an enclosed area which
is saturated with refrigerant, and the only indication an ultrasonic will
give you is the sound of the leak. But because AccuTrak is focused on a
specific band of sound... wind noise, voices, traffic, and most normal
operational sounds will NOT be detected. You can actually yell directly
into the sensor and hear nothing!

Question # 11:
The Oilcheck
TMEH 1 is a comparative
instrument, which enables optimized intervals to be maintained between
oil changes. It detects and measures the ________
________ in a used oil sample, which is compared against results taken
from an unused lubricant of the same type and brand.
